Description
Product Overview
The Triconex 4200-3 is the Primary Remote Extender Module (RXM) for Tricon TMR Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), manufactured by Triconex (Schneider Electric). It is installed in the main Tricon controller chassis and works paired with the remote-side 4201-3 module over multi-mode fiber optics. The 4200-3 extends the triplicated Tricon I/O bus to remote I/O racks while fully maintaining triple modular redundancy and SIL3 safety integrity. Each primary 4200-3 set can support up to three separate remote field I/O sites.

Key Features
- Primary-side RXM for Tricon main controller rack, matched with remote 4201-3
- Multi-mode ST fiber interface to extend triplicated safety I/O bus
- Built-in continuous self-testing and comprehensive front-panel diagnostic LEDs
- Fiber optic transmission eliminates ground loops and provides strong EMI/RFI noise immunity
- Hot-swappable inside the Tricon chassis for online maintenance
- Preserves full TMR fault tolerance across the fiber link
- Supports up to 3 independent remote I/O rack connections from one primary set
Installation & Test Notes
- Power off the main chassis before inserting or removing the 4200-3 module.
- Prepare multi-mode ST fiber cables; inspect fiber end faces for contamination or scratches before connection.
- Seat module securely in the primary RXM slot and fasten front retaining screw.
- Power on the main chassis, observe LED status; confirm PASS LED steady after self-test completes.
- Validate fiber link communication between 4200-3 and remote 4201-3 using TriStation diagnostic software.
- Perform communication fault test by disconnecting fiber to verify FAIL alarm triggers correctly.
- Observe minimum fiber bend radius during cabling to avoid optical attenuation.
Application
Deployed in oil & gas, chemical plants, power generation and pipeline ESD / F&G safety systems. Used when remote I/O racks must be placed in field areas away from the central control room, extending Tricon SIL3 safety control over fiber links.
FAQ
Q: What is the pairing rule for 4200-3 and 4201-3? A: 4200-3 is the primary module installed in the main controller rack, while 4201-3 is the matching remote module located at the remote I/O rack end. They must be used as a pair over multi-mode fiber.
Q: Can 4200-3 use single-mode fiber for longer distance? A: No. 4200-3 only supports multi-mode fiber. The single-mode primary variant is 4210-3 paired with remote 4211-3 for up to 12km reach.
Q: Is the 4200-3 hot swappable? A: Yes, hot-slot replacement is supported without full SIS system shutdown.
