Description

Product Overview

The Triconex 3625 is a 32-point TMR supervised digital output module for the Tricon Safety Instrumented System (SIS). Built with triple modular redundant architecture, it provides fault-tolerant 24VDC discrete outputs for emergency shutdown (ESD), fire & gas (F&G), turbine trip and safety interlock applications. It supports both supervised and non-supervised output modes, with continuous load loopback diagnostics to detect open circuit, missing load and short circuit faults on field wiring. It communicates to the Tricon main processor via TriBus and supports online hot-swap replacement without process shutdown.

Key Features

  • TMR triple-channel voting, single channel fault will not cause loss of output function
  • Configurable supervised / non-supervised operation for energize-to-trip and de-energize-to-trip safety circuits
  • Continuous per-point load monitoring to identify broken wires, missing loads and shorted field cables
  • Hot-swappable module, online replacement during system running
  • Front panel LED indicators for module health and individual channel status
  • Built-in watchdog and comprehensive self-test, latched fault reporting to Tricon engineering workstation
  • Opto-isolated outputs with internal short-circuit protection
  • High density 32-channel design to reduce rack space in safety cabinets

Application

Mainly deployed in petrochemical plants, refineries, natural gas processing facilities and power generation SIS racks. Used for emergency shutdown valves, trip relays, fire and gas alarm outputs, turbine protection interlocks and critical safety valve actuation.

Installation & Maintenance Notes

  • ESD protection required during removal and insertion of module
  • When supervised mode is enabled, every channel must have a valid field load or a dummy 470Ω resistor to avoid missing-load alarms
  • Match with 9662-610 termination panel for field wiring
  • Verify backplane TriBus connection and 24VDC field supply before power-up
  • Clear fault latches and perform channel proof tests after module replacement
  • Separate safety output cabling from low-level analog instrument wiring

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between Triconex 3624 and 3625? A: Both are TMR 24VDC DO modules. 3625 supports selectable supervised / non-supervised modes, while 3624 is fixed supervised digital output.

Q: Can 3625 be replaced online? A: Yes, it supports hot swap in Tricon SIS; follow plant safety lockout procedure for field circuits.

Q: What does supervised output mean? A: The module injects a small test current to check the field load continuously, detecting broken wiring or failed solenoid/relay before a safety demand occurs.
