Technical Introduction

Ground loops and common-mode noise can corrupt vibration and displacement signals; failure of the GSI122 leads to invalid vibration readings, false machinery alarms or loss of turbine protection inputs to the DCS. The GSI122 galvanic isolator provides electrical isolation between field transducers (eddy current probes, velocity/vibration sensors) and the VM600 monitoring rack. It breaks ground potential differences and suppresses common-mode interference while passing high-fidelity analog measurement signals. It accepts vibration or displacement inputs and outputs isolated standard analog signals for transmission to DCS, SCADA or local monitoring instruments. DIN rail mounting allows simple installation inside turbine protection cubicles. Power generation and petrochemical plants keep spare units to preserve turbomachinery condition monitoring while planning legacy VM600 system migration.

  • Best Suited For
    • Gas / steam turbine, compressor VM600 machinery monitoring cabinets
    • Isolation of eddy current probe and vibration transducer analog signals
    • Direct drop-in replacement for existing Vibro-Meter GSI122 galvanic isolators

Field Engineer’s Tech Notes

  • Verify input/output wiring polarity before power-up. Reversed polarity will produce inverted measurement values in the DCS trending.
  • Grounding strategy is critical. Do not create additional grounding points on both sides of the isolator; this defeats the ground-loop suppression purpose.
  • All signal wiring should be shielded, with shield single-point grounding to minimize induced noise on low-level vibration transducer signals.

Adaptive QA & Testing Protocol

Each GSI122 isolator is bench powered at 24VDC. We inject calibrated low-level vibration/displacement analog signals to verify signal transmission and isolation integrity. We measure isolation resistance between input and output sides. We validate output signal linearity across full working span. We inspect terminal connections and check for leakage or noise transfer. Full test reports or bench test video clips are available upon request.

Buyer’s FAQ

Q: What is the GSI122 used for? A: It is a Vibro-Meter galvanic isolator used in turbomachinery monitoring systems to separate low-level vibration and shaft displacement signals, eliminate ground loops and protect VM600 monitoring hardware from common-mode transients.

Q: What warranty applies for refurbished and NSFP GSI122? A: Refurbished and NSFP units carry a 12-month hardware warranty. Coverage excludes damage caused by overvoltage, incorrect wiring, or improper grounding practices.

Q: What lead time should I expect? A: Stocked units ship 3–7 business days. If inventory is depleted, lead time increases while we source surplus Vibro-Meter GSI122 isolators.

Q: Is GSI122 part of the VM600 system? A: Yes, commonly paired with the Vibro-Meter VM600 machinery protection and condition monitoring rack for turbine and compressor vibration monitoring.
