Description
Product Overview
The Emerson Ovation 5X00070G04 is an EMOD analog input module built for the Ovation distributed control system. It acquires low-level millivolt signals from field sensors and converts raw mV readings to digital values for the Ovation controller. Supported ranges include 20mV, 50mV, and 100mV for medium-speed measurement. This card is used for pressure transducers and low-output sensors in power generation, chemical processing and water treatment plants. OEM production has ended; available stock consists of surplus or refurbished tested replacement units for Ovation I/O racks.

Engineer Notes
- This is a fully integrated EMOD I/O module; no separate personality card required. Hot-swap can be performed when site lockout/tagout procedures are followed.
- Front panel LEDs indicate module health and per-channel fault states. The module flags open sensor wiring, shorted loops, underrange and overrange mV signals. Broken sensor wiring is the most common field fault.
- Select the correct millivolt range for each channel in the Ovation point database before commissioning. Incorrect range selection causes scaled measurement errors.
- Use shielded twisted pair cable for all low-level mV wiring. Keep sensor cables separated from high-current AC power and relay wiring to reduce induced electrical noise, which heavily impacts low-mV readings.
- This module does not supply excitation power. Field transducers requiring excitation must be powered by external field supplies.
- Apply ESD controls while handling. De-energize rack power before module removal or insertion if hot swap is not approved. After replacement, calibrate all channels and verify point scaling.
Pre-Shipment Test Protocol
- Visual inspection: Check PCB, edge connector, front panel LEDs and housing for bent pins, corrosion or component damage.
- Continuity and isolation test: Verify 1000VDC isolation between field millivolt circuits and Ovation backplane circuits.
- Functional bench test: Connect precision mV signal source to each channel, inject low, mid and full-scale millivolt values for all supported ranges, confirm readings match reference values.
- Fault simulation: Simulate open circuit and out-of-range signals, confirm module logs diagnostic alarms.
- Power cycling: Cycle 24VDC rack power 10 times, confirm channel readings remain stable after each restart.
- Save test logs and photos for QA records.
Buyer FAQ
Q: Can I swap 5X00070G04 directly with standard 4-20mA Ovation AI modules? A: Physical form fits the same rack slot, but this module is designed exclusively for millivolt signals. Confirm point database and sensor type before cutover.
Q: Does this module accept thermocouple inputs? A: It reads millivolt signals, but it lacks built-in cold junction compensation. Dedicated thermocouple modules are recommended for TC applications.
Q: Is this new original Emerson factory stock? A: OEM production has stopped. Available units are surplus or fully refurbished tested stock. We offer a 12-month warranty on tested units.
Q: Are terminal blocks included? A: Terminal blocks are not included unless explicitly noted on your quote. Confirm terminal accessories at order placement.
