Description
Product Overview
Part Number: 5453-279
Manufacturer: Woodward
Product Series: MicroNet TMR Turbine Control System
Type: 12-Slot TMR Chassis / Rack with integrated backplane
5453-279 is the 12-slot chassis rack for Woodward MicroNet TMR triple modular redundant turbomachinery control system. It serves as the mechanical carrier and electrical backplane backbone for TMR CPU, kernel power supply, analog I/O, discrete I/O and communication modules. It can host TMR040 or TMR5200 processors, kernel power cards and up to 12 I/O modules such as 5466-253,5466-257,5466-258. The backplane provides high-speed parallel TMR voting bus, power distribution and signal interconnection between all plugged-in boards. Widely used for gas turbine, steam turbine and compressor TMR control in power generation and oil & gas plants, for system spare replacement, cabinet retrofit and overhaul.

Engineer Notes
- 5453-279 is chassis rack only, does not include CPU, power supply and I/O modules. All boards are sold separately.
- Supports two processor generations: TMR040 uses dedicated I/O transceivers; TMR5200 supports shared I/O via RTN redundant trunk network.
- Integrated backplane carries TMR voting signals, module power and inter-module communication; backplane traces are critical for 2-out-of-3 hardware voting.
- Equipped with cooling fans; regular fan inspection and filter cleaning is mandatory for long term reliable operation in power plant cabinets.
- Module insertion must follow slot assignment rules; mechanical keying prevents wrong module type installation.
- All maintenance work on this rack requires full system power shutdown before removing or installing any modules.
- This is legacy EOL MicroNet TMR chassis, mainly used for spare inventory and existing turbine control system maintenance.
- All I/O modules (5466-253,5466-257,5466-258) we previously listed are designed to plug into this 5453-279 chassis.
Pre-Shipment Test Protocol
- Visual inspection of chassis housing, backplane PCB, edge connectors, fan assembly and part marking
- Backplane bus continuity test across all 12 slots
- Insulation resistance test of backplane power and signal traces
- Cooling fan operation and current draw test
- Mechanical fit test: verify smooth insertion and locking of TMR CPU, PSU and I/O modules
- Chassis ground terminal continuity verification
- Hardware revision and label verification
- Anti-static & shockproof packaging inspection
Buyer FAQ
Q: Is Woodward 5453-279 new original? A: We supply brand new original Woodward units, 12-month warranty, factory test certificate available on request.
Q: What modules fit inside 5453-279 chassis? A: TMR040/TMR5200 CPU, 5466 series TMR I/O cards, 5466-318 kernel power supply, 5501-471 serial communication module.
Q: What is the difference between TMR040 and TMR5200 in this chassis? A: TMR040 uses dedicated I/O links; TMR5200 supports RTN network for shared I/O across multiple chassis racks.
Q: Can I swap modules while the turbine controller is running? A: Modules in this TMR chassis are non hot-swappable. Full rack power must be cut before module replacement.
