Description
Product Overview
The Emerson Ovation 5A26457G01 is a 12-channel relay output expansion module built for the Ovation distributed control system. It receives digital command signals from the Ovation controller and actuates Form-C SPDT relay contacts to switch external field loads. Common field applications include alarm horns, solenoid valves, auxiliary contactors, and local panel indication circuits in power generation, pulp & paper, and chemical plants. OEM production has ended; available stock consists of surplus or refurbished tested replacement units for Ovation I/O racks.

Engineer Notes
- This is a fully integrated relay expansion module; no separate personality card required. Hot-swap can be performed when site lockout/tagout procedures are followed.
- Front panel LEDs indicate module health and per-channel relay state. Relay coil faults and backplane communication failures are reported as alarms to the Ovation controller.
- Form-C contacts provide common, normally open and normally closed terminals. Match wiring to plant logic diagrams to avoid unintended equipment actuation during replacement.
- Do not exceed contact voltage or current ratings. Inductive loads such as solenoid coils require transient suppression components to reduce back EMF and extend relay service life.
- Separate relay field wiring from low-level analog instrument cables. Switching noise from relay contacts can introduce measurement drift on RTD, thermocouple and 4-20mA loops.
- Apply ESD controls while handling. De-energize rack power before module removal or insertion if hot swap is not approved. After replacement, test each channel for pull-in and drop-out operation and verify contact continuity.
Pre-Shipment Test Protocol
- Visual inspection: Check PCB, edge connector, front panel LEDs, relay sockets and housing for bent pins, corrosion or component damage.
- Continuity and isolation test: Verify 1500VDC isolation between relay field contacts and backplane logic circuits.
- Functional bench test: Send on/off commands to each channel, confirm relay actuation and continuity across NO/NC contact terminals.
- Fault simulation: Force communication interruptions, confirm module reports diagnostic alarms.
- Power cycling: Cycle 24VDC rack power 10 times, confirm module boots and relay channels respond to controller commands after each restart.
- Save test logs and photos for QA records.
Buyer FAQ
Q: Can I swap 5A26457G01 directly with 5X00594G01 relay output module? A: Physical form fits the same rack slot, but channel count and point addressing differ. Confirm controller firmware, point database and interlock logic before cutover.
Q: Does this module supply power to field loads? A: No. The relays provide dry contact switching. External field power must be wired through the contact terminals.
Q: Is this new original Emerson factory stock? A: OEM production has stopped. Available units are surplus or fully refurbished tested stock. We offer a 12-month warranty on tested units.
Q: Are terminal blocks included? A: Terminal blocks are not included unless explicitly noted on your quote. Confirm terminal accessories at order placement.
