Description
Product Overview
The Emerson A6740 (EPRO) is a 3U single-slot plug-in relay output module for the AMS 6500 / CSI 6500 Machinery Health Monitor rack system. This relay card provides multi-channel isolated dry contact relay outputs for alarm and trip logic from all AMS6500 measurement modules. It collects protection status signals from vibration, thrust, speed, expansion and other TSI monitoring cards and converts them into hardwired relay contacts for turbine/compressor emergency trip circuits, local alarm panels and plant DCS interlocks. It is widely used in power generation, oil & gas and petrochemical critical rotating machinery protection systems and fully complies with API 670 requirements.

Key Features
- 8 independent SPDT programmable relays for machinery alert, danger trip, sensor fault and rack system fault signals.
- Galvanic isolation between rack TSI electronics and external field trip wiring, preventing ground loop noise interference into protection circuits.
- Relay logic fully configurable via AMS 6500 software; each relay can be mapped to any channel alarm or trip condition on the rack.
- Supports fail-safe relay mode for safety-critical turbine trip applications, contacts energized during normal operation and de-energized on trip.
- Front panel dedicated LED indicators for each relay channel, allowing quick visual inspection of relay state during on-site maintenance.
- Hot-swappable 3U Eurocard design, supports online replacement under controlled maintenance procedures without full rack shutdown.
- Password protected configuration mapping to avoid unauthorized changes to protection relay assignments.
- Works seamlessly with the full AMS6500 module family including A6110, A6120, A6210, A6312, A6410 and other TSI measurement cards.
Installation Notes
- Install only in Emerson AMS6500 19-inch rack, confirm rack firmware compatibility before installation.
- Route external trip/alarm field wiring to the rear terminal assembly; separate high-current relay wiring from low-level transducer signal cables.
- Use ESD wrist strap while handling the Eurocard module to prevent static damage to PCB components.
- Follow plant lockout/tagout procedures even for hot-swap maintenance, especially when working on machine trip circuits.
- After module replacement, re-verify relay mapping in AMS6500 software and perform full trip logic proof test before returning rotating equipment online.
- Adhere to plant safety standards for fail-safe trip circuit wiring design.
Testing Procedure
- Visual inspection: Inspect front panel LEDs, PCB and edge connector for scratches, bent pins or corrosion.
- Insert A6740 module into AMS6500 rack, apply 24VDC rack power and confirm power-up self-test passes.
- Use AMS6500 software to assign each relay to a simulated alarm or trip condition.
- Trigger simulated alarm/trip events and verify corresponding relay contact actuation with multimeter continuity test, confirm front panel LED status matches relay state.
- Verify fail-safe de-energized trip operation as configured for machinery protection circuits.
- Validate relay isolation by checking for leakage between rack side and contact side.
- Save configuration backup, record test results and tag module for spare inventory.
FAQ
