Description
Product Overview
The Emerson 5X00501G01 is a 16-channel HART-capable analog input module built for the Ovation distributed control system. It accepts 4–20mA signals from field transmitters and converts analog readings to digital data for the Ovation controller. HART pass-through enables bi-directional access to transmitter diagnostics, tag information and calibration parameters. OEM production has ended; available stock consists of surplus or refurbished tested replacement units for power generation, boiler, water treatment and pulp & paper DCS racks.

Engineer Notes
- This is a fully integrated I/O module; no separate personality card is required. Hot-swap is allowed when site lockout/tagout procedures are followed.
- Front panel LEDs show module health and per-channel fault states. The module flags open loops, shorted wiring, underrange and overrange input signals. Open transmitter wiring is the most common field failure.
- HART communication shares the same 4–20mA loop. Use a HART communicator or AMS software to read device health and adjust transmitter configuration.
- Use shielded twisted pair cable for all analog input wiring. Separate signal cables from high-current power wiring to reduce electrical noise that distorts analog measurements and HART digital signals.
- This module does not supply loop power. Field transmitters require an external 24VDC loop supply.
- Apply ESD controls while handling. De-energize rack power before module removal or insertion if hot swap is not approved. After replacement, calibrate all channels and verify HART communication for every loop.
Pre-Shipment Test Protocol
- Visual inspection: Check PCB, edge connector, front panel LEDs and housing for bent pins, corrosion or component damage.
- Continuity and isolation test: Verify 1000VDC isolation between field input circuits and backplane logic.
- Functional bench test: Connect precision current source to each channel, inject 4mA, 12mA and 20mA reference signals, confirm module readings match source values.
- HART communication test: Attach HART simulator to each loop, confirm read/write access to device tags and diagnostic registers.
- Fault simulation: Simulate open loop and shorted input on each channel, confirm module logs diagnostic alarms.
- Power cycling: Cycle backplane power 10 times, confirm channel readings and HART links recover correctly.
- Save test logs and photos for QA records.
Buyer FAQ
Q: Can I swap 5X00501G01 with 8-channel Ovation HART AI modules directly? A: Physical form factor fits the same rack slot. This 16-channel module uses different point definitions. Confirm controller firmware and point database configuration before cutover.
Q: Does this module provide 24VDC power to field transmitters? A: No. It is a current-sinking input module. External 24VDC field supply is required for 4–20mA transmitters.
Q: Is this new original Emerson factory stock? A: OEM production has stopped. Available units are surplus or fully refurbished tested stock. We offer a 12-month warranty on tested units.
Q: Are terminal blocks included? A: Terminal blocks are not included unless explicitly noted on your quote. Confirm terminal assembly availability at order placement.
