The Emerson 5X00497G01 is a 4-slot I/O base substrate for the Ovation distributed control system. It supplies 24VDC power and backplane bus communication for installed personality I/O modules, supporting analog, digital and special function I/O cards in the same compact rack unit. This base routes field signals, manages module bus handshaking, and propagates diagnostic data back to the Ovation controller. OEM production has ended; available stock consists of surplus or refurbished tested replacement base units for power generation, boiler and pulp & paper plant Ovation I/O cabinets.

Engineer Notes
- This is the base substrate only. It does not include personality I/O modules, terminal blocks or wiring. You must purchase and install matching personality cards separately.
- Each slot accepts Ovation personality I/O modules. Mix of analog input, analog output, digital and special function cards is allowed, but check total power draw for the populated base.
- Base carries backplane bus and power to each slot. Damaged edge connectors on the substrate will cause intermittent communication faults or module power drops.
- Follow ESD protocols while handling the bare substrate. Remove rack power before inserting or removing personality cards from the base.
- Verify slot keying before card insertion to prevent mis-seating. After replacement, check bus communication and point status for every I/O card installed on this base.
- The substrate supports hot swap of individual personality modules only if site lockout/tagout and safety procedures permit. The base itself cannot be hot-swapped while energized.
Pre-Shipment Test Protocol
- Visual inspection: Check substrate PCB, edge connectors, slot pins and mounting hardware for bent pins, corrosion or physical damage.
- Continuity test: Verify power and backplane bus traces across all four slots. Confirm no short circuits between 24VDC power and signal lines.
- Isolation test: Check isolation between power bus and signal circuits.
- Functional bench test: Populate each slot with known-good personality modules, connect to Ovation test controller, confirm detection of all cards and normal point scanning.
- Power cycling: Apply 24VDC supply and cycle power 10 times; confirm all installed I/O modules are detected reliably after each restart.
- Save test logs and photos for QA records.
